GAFDAN Accuses Militias of Poisoning Cattle in Plateau State

The Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN), specifically its Plateau State chapter, has accused local militias of poisoning cattle as a strategy to intimidate herdsmen in the region. This allegation was made in a statement released on Friday, highlighting a troubling trend of cattle poisoning aimed at provoking reprisals against the Fulani community.

GAFDAN reported that herdsmen in Plateau State, particularly in the Riyom, Bassa, and Barkin Ladi areas, have lost 50 livestock due to poisoning incidents. The group noted that between January and March, a total of 54 cattle were lost, with compensation paid for only one cow, leaving 53 without any compensation.

GAFDAN emphasized that the Fulani community would not be intimidated and called on relevant stakeholders to take immediate action to address the issue, particularly regarding compensation for damages caused by crop destruction.
