Benue State Launches National Food City Project

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State announced the location of the National Food City project in Benue South, specifically in the Otukpo Local Government Area, during a diaspora town hall meeting on March 21, 2026. This multi-billion naira agricultural hub aims to ensure fair resource distribution across the state.

The project will span 30,000 hectares of mechanized farmland and include agro-processing facilities for crops such as rice, cassava, maize, and soybean. Alia emphasized that this initiative demonstrates his commitment to serving all parts of the state.

The food city will be developed under a design-build-operate-transfer (DBOT) model, with the Rexzodeneh Group Limited funding the construction and operation over a 25-year period as part of a landmark public-private partnership agreement. The governor also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects in the region, including road construction and health care improvements.
