Yemi Edun Reflects on Sports Passion After World Cup

Yemi Edun, a London-based Nigerian real estate developer, reflects on his lifelong passion for sports and youth development after attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Growing up in Surulere, Lagos, near the National Stadium, Edun's exposure to football shaped his life and inspired his commitment to grassroots sports.

His journey began with a snooker hall business that combined his interests in sports and entrepreneurship. Although he has embraced various sports, football remains his greatest passion.

After relocating to the UK, he became a regular attendee of English Premier League matches and a member of Chelsea Football Club. Edun attended the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which was jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, focusing on matches in Mexico.

He described the unforgettable atmosphere during Mexico's match against Ecuador, attended by 80,000 fans. Edun stresses the need to support grassroots initiatives to identify and nurture young talent, citing his sponsorship of Nigerian chess prodigy Deborah Quickpen and support for table tennis development.
