Peter Obi Blames Poor Leadership for World Cup Absence

Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party and ex-governor of Anambra State, stated that Nigeria's absence from the 2026 FIFA World Cup is due to poor leadership rather than a lack of talent. He expressed this view on his official social media page, highlighting that the country is blessed with talent across various fields.

Obi argued that the failure of political leadership has hindered the creation of an enabling environment for young people to develop their skills and succeed. He called for deliberate government investment in youth development, education, and sports to unlock Nigeria's potential.

Additionally, he praised Nigerian Afrobeat star Davido for using the FIFA World Cup platform to draw global attention to Nigeria's security issues, particularly the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State. Obi expressed confidence that Nigeria can overcome its current challenges through effective leadership and policies that create opportunities for youth.
