Low Turnout in Kano By-elections Amid Peaceful Voting

Voting for the Kano by-elections began across 1,014 polling units on December 2025, following the death of Aminu Sa'adu Ungogo, the representative for Ungogo Constituency. Approximately 535,000 registered voters were expected to participate in the elections.

Reports indicated that election materials arrived early at polling stations; however, officials expressed concern over the low turnout. Despite this, there remains hope that participation will improve as the day progresses.

The exercise has been reported to be peaceful, with no major incidents recorded. Security agencies maintained a visible presence to ensure order during the elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reiterated its commitment to delivering credible polls, which are widely seen as a test of the strength of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), alongside other parties in the contest.
