Low Voter Turnout and Delays Mark Edo LG Elections

The Edo State local government elections conducted by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) on the scheduled date were marred by low voter turnout and the late arrival of electoral materials and officers. Reports indicated that polling units in Oredo and Egor Local Government Areas experienced significant absenteeism, with many locations, such as the Unicaf Group School and Ugbowo Primary School, showing no eligible voters present.

At 10:30 AM, electoral materials had not yet arrived at several polling centers, and by 11:45 AM, only a few voters were seen casting their votes. Mr.

Bless Odion, a voter, expressed concerns about the low turnout, attributing it to voter engagement issues. Mr.

Mose Osadolor noted that voting commenced a few minutes after 9:00 AM, despite being scheduled for 8:00 AM, while Mr. Grace Ahiant, a supervisory presiding officer, cited access issues to classrooms as a reason for the lack of proper seating arrangements for voters.
