Labour Party's Nenadi Usman on 2023 Election Failures

Nenadi Usman, the national chairman of the Labour Party (LP), addressed the party's shortcomings in the 2023 presidential elections, stating that it failed to effectively utilize the strengths of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the grassroots level. Speaking on Wednesday at a high-level strategic summit in Abuja, Usman emphasized that no political party can claim success without understanding its grassroots membership and their locations.

She acknowledged that the LP's weak grassroots structure negatively impacted its performance during the elections, particularly during litigation. Usman highlighted the importance of obtaining Form EC8 at polling units and criticized the evidence presented in electoral disputes.

She noted that the LP must avoid repeating past mistakes in future elections and revealed that discussions with the NLC and TUC have already commenced to rebuild the party's grassroots base.
