Labour Party in Nigeria to Conduct Congresses and Membership Revalidation from March 2026

The Labour Party in Nigeria has announced its decision to conduct congresses from March 2026 and commence a nationwide membership revalidation exercise, including registering new members. This resolution was reached during a joint meeting of the party's National Executive Committee and Interim National Committee held in Abuja.

The party expressed remorse over the departure of its 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi. Additionally, a timetable for the party's congresses at ward, local government, state, and zonal levels leading up to a national convention was established.

The party also agreed to set up a reconciliation committee to engage with disgruntled members willing to return. Former National Chairman, Julius Abur, was called upon to reconcile and rejoin the party.

Labour Party's leadership assured compliance with court orders and thanked the Independent National Electoral Commission for recognizing the Interim National Committee. The party aims to emerge stronger and more united following recent challenges.
