Labour Party Names Juli Obeta as Deputy Governorship Candidate

The Labour Party has unveiled Juli Obeta as its female deputy governorship candidate for the forthcoming elections in Benue State. This announcement was made on Monday at the party's secretariat along Otukpo Road in Makurdi.

Juli Obeta was unanimously selected following consultations with stakeholders across the state, reflecting the party's commitment to strengthening women's participation in governance. Mathia Byuan, the party's governorship candidate, endorsed Obeta's nomination, which is significant as it marks the first time a female candidate has been selected for the deputy governorship position in Benue State under the Labour Party platform.

Obeta's selection aligns with the party's broader program to promote inclusivity and expand opportunities for women in political leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections. Previously, Obeta served on Goodluck Jonathan's presidential campaign team and was appointed as a special assistant to Governor Hyacinth Alia in 2023, a position she declined.
