NISO Announces Gas Supply Shutdown Impacting Power Stations

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), represented by Stella Oduem, has issued a statement regarding a scheduled maintenance shutdown that will impact gas supply to major thermal power generating stations connected to the national grid. This shutdown is set to occur from February 12 to February 15, 2026, with full gas supply restoration anticipated on February 16, 2026.

During this maintenance period, gas availability for certain power plants will be temporarily reduced, directly affecting facilities such as Egbin, Azura, Sapel, Transcorp Power Plant, and NDPHC Sapel Olorunsogo Omotosho Power Plant. The network-wide gas balance effect will lead to a temporary reduction in available thermal generation capacity across the national grid.

NISO emphasized the importance of maintaining grid stability and reliability, stating that appropriate real-time operational measures will be deployed to safeguard the integrity and security of the national grid throughout the maintenance window. Load shedding will be implemented in a structured and transparent manner, prioritizing critical national infrastructure and essential services.
