NNPC Announces Temporary Gas Supply Shortfall to Power Generation Companies

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has revealed a temporary gas supply reduction to power generation companies from February 12 to February 15, 2026, citing scheduled maintenance with its joint venture partner, Seplat Energy Plc. This four-day shutdown of Seplat's gas production facilities is expected to moderately impact gas deliveries to power generation companies, limiting the electricity output nationwide.

NNPC and Seplat Energy Plc will conduct routine mandatory maintenance on their gas production facilities to ensure long-term reliability and safeguard critical infrastructure. The Nigerian electricity sector heavily relies on gas-fired thermal power plants, which account for 70% of the installed generation capacity.

The disruption in gas supply in the past has led to technical faults, pipeline vandalism, commercial disputes, and interruptions in power generation, emphasizing the crucial link between upstream gas operations and downstream electricity generation.
