Oyo State Governor Imposes Curfew Over Kidnappings

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State announced a curfew affecting ten local government areas in response to increasing security concerns related to the abduction of students and teachers. This decision follows the kidnapping of 39 students and seven teachers from Oriir Local Government Area last month by armed bandits, which has heightened fears among residents and prompted calls for stronger security measures.

The curfew, which will be in effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 AM for an initial period of 48 hours, aims to restrict movement in the affected areas, which include Oriir, Orelop, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba. The Oyo State Government, through statements issued by Professor Musibau Babatunde and Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, emphasized the necessity of these measures to strengthen surveillance, improve intelligence gathering, and support ongoing rescue efforts in the region.
