Makinde Addresses Worker Welfare at 2026 May Day Celebration

During the 2026 May Day celebration held at the Lekan Salami Sport Complex in Ibadan, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde outlined his administration's policies designed to enhance worker welfare and address the dual challenges of insecurity and poverty. He highlighted that these issues create a harsh working environment, leading to decreased productivity and morale among civil servants.

Makinde stated that insecurity disrupts livelihoods and delays projects, discouraging investment and stripping labor dignity. To combat these challenges, he mentioned the establishment of the Amotekun security network and improvements in inter-agency coordination among security forces.

Additionally, he reaffirmed the government's commitment to regular salary and pension payments, the implementation of the national minimum wage, and the provision of a monthly transport bonus of N10,000. Trade union leaders Bosun Olabiyi Agoro and Martin Kayod urged the government to continue addressing worker welfare issues, particularly in light of rising fuel prices and inflation.
