Oyo Governor Makinde Forms Panel to Investigate Abduction

On May 15, 2026, an abduction incident involving students and teachers occurred in the Esinele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area, prompting Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to establish an eight-member Judicial Commission of Inquiry. The commission, chaired by Prof.

Mojeed Owoade, was inaugurated on a Friday at the Executive Council Chamber, Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan. Governor Makinde stated that the independent panel aims to learn lessons, answer questions, and establish the facts surrounding the incident without undermining security agencies.

The commission is tasked with identifying any institutional or operational lapses and recommending measures to enhance the protection of schools and communities. The governor assured the commission of necessary support for independent and professional operation, giving them four weeks to complete their assignment, with the option to request additional time.

The commission includes members such as Prof. Jibril Ibrahim and AIG Ngozi Onadeko (retd.), with Mrs Olamide Sandra Tella serving as secretary.
