Makinde Calls for UN Probe into Oriire Kidnap Incident

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde addressed concerns regarding his call for the United Nations to investigate the abduction of students and teachers in the Oriire local government area, stating it was not intended to undermine Nigerian security agencies. During the inauguration of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry at the Governor’s Office Secretariat Agodi, he emphasized the need for international support to ensure all questions surrounding the May 15, 2026 abduction are answered.

The commission aims to independently investigate the circumstances of the abduction, identify institutional and operational failures, and recommend measures to prevent future occurrences. Makinde acknowledged the politicization of the incident, with accusations that his administration orchestrated the kidnapping, making it imperative to establish the truth.

He expressed gratitude for the victims' safe return but stressed that accountability and reform are essential for restoring public confidence. The commission's chairman, retired Justice Prof.

Mojeed Owoade, assured that the inquiry would be guided by facts and evidence.
