Makinde's Running Mate Touts Governor as Most Capable 2027 Candidate

Lawal Daura, the vice-presidential running mate of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde under the Allied Peoples Movement ticket, has positioned the governor as the strongest contender in Nigeria's 2027 presidential race. Speaking over the weekend at the APM campaign office in Abuja, Daura argued that Makinde's track record as Oyo governor demonstrates superior competence compared to other candidates seeking the nation's top office.

Daura's endorsement centred on Makinde's performance in managing Oyo State, which he characterised as proof of the governor's ability to handle national challenges. The running mate specifically highlighted the governor's approach to governance, pointing to markers such as transparency and delivery of development projects.

Daura suggested voters should evaluate presidential candidates based on their administrative achievements rather than other criteria. The vice-presidential candidate also outlined what a Makinde-led administration would prioritise if the ticket wins the 2027 election.

Daura described the planned government as a four-year transitional administration focused on achieving national unity. He identified economic restructuring, education sector reforms, and overhaul of Nigeria's security infrastructure as central policy areas.

This messaging appeared designed to appeal to the northern region, which Daura specifically addressed during his remarks. Daura's statements came during a visit to campaign headquarters by members of the Northern Patriotic Front, a group that presented Makinde with an award and signalled their political backing.

The timing suggests the APM is attempting to build coalition support ahead of the 2027 general elections by securing endorsements from regional political networks.
