Makkah Eye Centre Opens in Ibadan to Combat Blindness

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State announced the opening of the Makkah Eye Centre located in the Elebu area of Ibadan, which is part of a humanitarian effort to prevent blindness across Africa and Asia. The center is established through a collaboration with the Al Basar International Foundation, represented by Dr.

Adel Alrashood, a prominent ophthalmologist from Saudi Arabia. Governor Makinde emphasized that the eye center will help retain financial resources within Nigeria, particularly in the health sector, and contribute significantly to reducing avoidable blindness.

He noted the economic impact of preventing capital flight, as funds spent on healthcare will have a multiplier effect within Oyo State. The project is a testament to the belief in quality healthcare access and aims to strengthen partnerships between government and non-governmental organizations.

Oba Rashidi Ladoja, a local leader, expressed hope that the facility will address eye health challenges in the region.
