Malami Accuses EFCC of Illegal Eviction in Abuja

Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General of the Federation, condemned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly evicting a family from a residence in Abuja without a court order. This action occurred despite a pending court challenge regarding the property, which is located at No. 2 Koronakh Close off Amazon Street, Maitama, Abuja.

Malami stated that the EFCC's attempt to take possession of the residence violated legal norms, as an interim forfeiture order granted by the court on January 6, 2026, did not authorize immediate possession or eviction of occupants. He noted that he has filed an application in the Federal High Court to set aside the forfeiture order, with a hearing scheduled for April 20, 2026.

Malami criticized the EFCC for taking extrajudicial actions and emphasized that enforcing court orders is strictly the responsibility of court officials, not litigants. He expressed concerns about potential political motivations behind the eviction.
