Malami Challenges EFCC Over Seized Properties in Court

Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General of the Federation, has initiated legal proceedings against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) concerning the temporary seizure of multiple properties. Malami claims that all his wealth was lawfully earned and has requested the Federal High Court in Abuja to annul the EFCC's seizure order, which was issued in January 2026.

He argues that the properties were acquired through legitimate income from his legal work and business activities over three decades. Malami contends that the EFCC has not provided sufficient evidence linking the properties to any criminal activity and asserts that the agency's valuation of the seized assets is inflated.

He emphasizes that his wealth stems from various business interests, including investments in hospitality, agriculture, and education, and that he has complied with asset declaration requirements. Malami also accuses the EFCC of overstepping its legal authority and taking possession of properties without a final court order.
