UNICEF Delivers 11,580 Cartons of Therapeutic Food to Gombe

On Monday, UNICEF handed over 11,580 cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) to the Gombe State Government to assist in treating children suffering from acute malnutrition. Dr Nuzhat Rafique, Chief of UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, praised the state government for its N500m contribution as counterpart funding for nutrition interventions in 2025, which was matched through the Child Nutrition Fund.
The consignment contains millions of sachets of RUTF, specifically designed for children with severe acute malnutrition. Rafique emphasized the importance of proper distribution and monitoring to ensure the food reaches the intended beneficiaries and urged community groups to raise awareness about its proper use.
She also highlighted the necessity for children to complete their treatment without interruption. Prof Bertha Abdu, Gombe State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, acknowledged UNICEF's support and stressed the importance of nutrition for children's growth.
Habu Dahiru, Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, noted the state's efforts in local food production to complement UNICEF's initiatives.
