Man Arrested for Chaining Son for 17 Years in Bauchi

On February 16, 2026, the Bauchi State Police Command arrested 72-year-old Malam Muhammad Lawan for allegedly chaining his biological son for 17 years in Shadawanka Village, located on the outskirts of the Bauchi local government area. The police responded to a distress call regarding the inhumane treatment of the victim, who is now 40 years old.

Upon arrival, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of B Division, along with a special patrol unit, discovered the victim helpless inside a room with his right leg chained. Following the rescue, the victim was rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention.

The police have assured the public that the case is under investigation and that the perpetrator will be brought to justice.
