High Electricity Costs Threaten South-East Manufacturers

Lady Adaora Chukwudozie, the Chairman of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, South-East Zone, raised alarms regarding the high cost of electricity impacting manufacturers in the South-East region, who are currently operating below 30% of their installed capacity. This statement was made on Friday during a symposium on ‘South East Industrial Energy Solutions and Investment’ at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka, Anambra State.

Chukwudozie appealed for urgent intervention from the Federal Government and South-East governors, highlighting that the lack of access to the National Gas Pipeline has forced manufacturers to rely on diesel generators, leading to increased operational costs. She noted that many manufacturing hubs are struggling, with high inventory levels due to energy challenges.

To address these issues, the association has launched the Industrial Energy Adoption Programme aimed at providing affordable and sustainable energy solutions to enhance productivity and competitiveness in the manufacturing sector.
