Bruno Fernandes Wins FWA Men's Footballer of the Year

Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, has been awarded the Football Writers' Association's Men's Footballer of the Year award. During the season, Fernandes scored eight goals and provided 20 assists in 34 matches across all competitions.

He received 45 votes from the FWA's over 900 members, surpassing Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, who received 28 votes, and Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, who finished third. This recognition comes as Manchester United is set to finish the season without a trophy for the second consecutive year, having secured a third-place finish in the Premier League, which guarantees their place in the next season's Champions League.

Fernandes joined Manchester United from Portuguese club Sporting CP in January 2020 for £67.7 million and made his 300th appearance for the club earlier in the season. His future at Old Trafford appears uncertain, as the club has reportedly informed him that they do not wish to accept a significant offer from Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal.

Fernandes has rejected this interest, and his contract with Manchester United runs until 2027, with an additional year option.
