MAN Warns Against Illegal Recycling of Beverage Bottles

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), represented by Director General Segun Ajayi Kadir, has issued a warning against the illegal recycling of beverage packaging materials, following a police crackdown on illegal factories in Anambra State in early February 2023. The police reportedly raided several illegal facilities in the Onitsha area, where individuals were allegedly destroying returnable glass bottles and plastic crates belonging to beverage companies.

Ajayi Kadir condemned these actions as unauthorized economic sabotage and emphasized the importance of protecting legitimate business operations and environmental standards. The association noted that the illegal activities have resulted in significant financial losses for beverage companies, amounting to millions of naira.

Ajayi Kadir highlighted the need for regulatory agencies to intensify efforts against these illegal practices and called on the public to report suspicious activities. The investigation revealed that large quantities of bottles and crates were being diverted from legitimate recycling channels, undermining the beverage companies' sustainability efforts.
