Police Raid Illegal Beverage Recycling Sites in Anambra

On February 19, 2025, the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the Beer Sector Group (BSG), conducted a raid in Anambra targeting illegal operations that were destroying returnable packaging materials, including glass bottles and plastic crates belonging to various beverage manufacturers. Abiola Laseind, the Executive Secretary of BSG, stated that the operation was based on credible intelligence aimed at cracking down on unauthorized recycling and theft of returnable packaging materials.

The destruction of these materials has caused beverage companies to incur losses amounting to millions of Naira. Laseind emphasized that the owners of the factories involved in the destruction were undermining the beverage companies' efforts to maintain a sustainable circular packaging model.

The BSG has engaged with relevant security and regulatory authorities to seek legal intervention to curb these illegal practices and recover company assets. Laseind warned that individuals involved in such activities would face legal consequences and highlighted the risks posed to the supply chain and public safety due to unsafe recycling practices.
