Gunmen Shoot Rivers Monarch, Trigger Manhunt in Rivers State

Gunmen targeted Suanu Baridam, the king of Bangha Kingdom in Rivers State, shooting him in the leg as he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt. The Rivers State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the assailants.

The attack occurred at Taabaa junction in Sogho, Khana LGA, as the monarch was returning from an engagement. Baridam is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Port Harcourt.

Thomas Bariere, the Chairman of Khana LGA, condemned the attack, emphasizing that it was not linked to gang-related activities but aimed at instilling fear in the community. The Youth Environment Advocacy Center called for a thorough investigation and urged the state government to ensure the safety of citizens and the monarch.

Grace Iring Koko, the spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the incident and ongoing investigations. Sir Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, was urged to provide adequate security for the king's recovery and the safety of the state's residents.
