Bandit Attack in Kwara Leaves Soldiers Feared Dead

On Monday, a bandit attack in Kemanji, Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State, resulted in many feared dead, including soldiers. The assault began around 3:00 AM, allegedly following a threat letter sent to the community, which heightened tensions among residents.

The attack led to panic, with many fleeing for safety. Security personnel, including members of the Nigerian Army and a local vigilant group, responded swiftly, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun battle that lasted until 5:00 AM.

Eyewitness accounts indicated that several soldiers lost their lives during the confrontation, while members of the local vigilant group were also reported injured. The aftermath of the attack saw aggrieved youth in the area calling for a temporary halt to political activities, expressing their grief and demanding action from local leaders.

This incident follows a resurgence of violent attacks in the Kaiama area, where bandits had previously killed five members of a national forest guard in April 2026.
