Police IG Disu Addresses Officer Pressures in Nigeria

On Thursday, Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu addressed the significant pressures faced by police officers in Nigeria, noting that many do not sleep and suffer from high blood pressure due to the demanding nature of their work. This statement was made during a meeting in Abuja with a delegation from Punch Nigeria, led by Executive Director Omowunmi Tund Ob.

Disu emphasized the human sacrifices made by police personnel, revealing that 140 officers had lost their lives in the Federal Capital Territory alone. He urged the media to help project the human side of police work to foster greater public cooperation with security agencies.

The meeting also aimed to strengthen the relationship between the police and media, particularly in light of ongoing discussions about police reforms and the potential creation of state police. Tund Ob congratulated Disu on his appointment and highlighted the media's role in shaping public understanding of police reforms.
