Many states lack codes to tackle building collapse – NIOB

During a press briefing at the 55th Annual Builders Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB), Bldr Sir Alderton Ewa Ewa highlighted the lack of building regulatory codes in many states in Nigeria. The conference, with the theme "Advancing Builders Knowledge Skills Effective Enforcement Building Regulatory Laws Sustainable," aims to address the structural causes of building collapses in the country.

Ewa Ewa emphasized the importance of domesticating and enforcing building regulatory laws to ensure public safety and professional accountability. The NIOB president stressed the need for consistent implementation of these laws nationwide.

Building collapses due to substandard construction and weak enforcement remain a major concern, underscoring the necessity for capacity building, policy engagement, and professional collaboration in the construction industry.
