Alumni Urge Ogun Government to Boost Polytechnic Funding

On Tuesday, Alhaji Ayind Soaga, representing the alumni association of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), called on the Ogun State Government to increase funding for polytechnic education. He described the current financial allocation as grossly inadequate, emphasizing the need for enhanced resources to support practical training in various fields such as mass communication and engineering.

Soaga highlighted the importance of polytechnic education in equipping graduates with hands-on skills necessary for entrepreneurship and job creation, urging graduates to prioritize self-reliance over government employment. He expressed concern over the poor state of campus infrastructure and pledged that the alumni association would collaborate with stakeholders to improve facilities.

The appeal comes amid revelations from the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) regarding the institution's monthly salary obligations of 210 million Naira, while it only receives 20.75 million Naira monthly from the state government. Soaga congratulated the newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session and urged them to uphold the institution's tradition of excellence.
