Roberto Martinez Leaves Portugal National Team After Defeat

Roberto Martinez has officially left his position as the head coach of the Portugal national football team after a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Spain in the World Cup 2026 round of 16, which took place on Monday. The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) confirmed the termination of his contract on Wednesday, following the team's exit from the tournament.

Martinez, a 52-year-old Spaniard, was appointed as Portugal's coach in January 2023 after leaving his role with Belgium. During his tenure, he aimed to guide the team towards winning the UEFA Nations League title in 2025.

Following his departure, the FPF has already begun the search for a successor, with the goal of continuing to promote a winning culture within the national team.
