Jorge Jesus Appointed New Portugal National Team Coach

The Portuguese Football Federation has appointed Jorge Jesus as the new head coach of the national football team, following the departure of Roberto Martinez. Martinez's contract expired after Portugal's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the team was defeated 1-0 by Spain in the Round of 16.

Jesus, a veteran coach at 71 years old, is expected to oversee Portugal's preparations for the UEFA Nations League and Euro 2028, as well as the next FIFA World Cup campaign. His appointment marks the first time he will manage the Portugal senior national team, despite a successful club career across Europe, South America, and the Middle East, including his recent role at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, where he worked alongside Portuguese captain Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese Football Federation confirmed Martinez's exit and expressed a commitment to maintaining a winning culture within the team, with Jesus tasked to integrate emerging talents alongside experienced players.
