Mbanefo Advocates Overhaul of Nigeria's Education System

Ozon Mbanefo, founder and provost of 02 Academy, has urged for an urgent overhaul of Nigeria's education system in response to the rapid transformation of industries by artificial intelligence (AI). He warns that traditional educational models are becoming inadequate as AI fundamentally alters the job market.

Mbanefo argues that educational institutions must prepare students not just to enter the workforce but to collaborate with intelligent systems that are becoming integral to everyday decision-making. He stresses that the real question is whether students are being prepared to compete alongside AI, rather than merely whether they are ready for the workforce.

Mbanefo points out that AI literacy should be a foundational aspect of modern education, warning that Nigeria risks becoming overly dependent on foreign innovations if it fails to equip its youth with the necessary skills to develop AI technologies that address local challenges. He calls for educational leaders to rethink their approaches to align with the realities of a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
