Ekiti Lawmaker Urges Responsible AI Use Among Students

On Friday in Abuja, Kolawole Akinlayo, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ekiti North II Federal Constituency, cautioned Nigerian students against excessive reliance on artificial intelligence and digital learning tools. He warned that misuse of these technologies could weaken students' critical thinking abilities and overall academic performance.

Akinlayo highlighted the importance of attending lectures, taking notes, and reading, rather than solely depending on computers for answers. He linked the misuse of digital tools to poor moral upbringing and urged parents to ensure proper training for their children.

During the event, he also announced the introduction of a scholarship program for students in his constituency, providing an additional N100,000 incentive for those achieving a CGPA of 3.5 and above. Akinlayo's remarks were made during the presentation of the 2026 National Association of Nigerian Students Excel Leadership Service Community Impact Award, where he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting student welfare.
