Kylian Mbappé, the 27-year-old forward for Real Madrid, made history at the 2026 FIFA World Cup by becoming the first player to win the Golden Boot in consecutive tournaments, finishing as the top scorer with 10 goals across eight matches. He surpassed Argentina's captain Lionel Messi, who finished with eight goals.

Mbappé's achievement further cements his status as one of the greatest players in football history. His 10 goals at the tournament made him the highest scorer in the 2026 World Cup and the first player to score 10 goals in a single men's World Cup since Gerd Müller in 1970.

Despite France finishing fourth after a thrilling 6-4 loss to England in the third-place playoff, Mbappé's performance included braces against Senegal and Sweden, as well as crucial goals in knockout rounds. Messi, who had the opportunity to reclaim the record, failed to score in Argentina's final match against Spain.
