Lagos City Marathon Medal Collection Ends Amid Chaos

The Lagos City Marathon's medal collection process officially concludes today, Sunday, 15th, as announced by the organizers, Nilayo Sports Management. Participants are urged to collect their medals at designated centers across Lagos, including Puma stores at Ikeja City Mall and Circle Mall, and the marathon office at Balogun Stadium.

The collection follows a chaotic scene during the 10km race on Saturday, 11th, where runners overwhelmed security personnel, leading to barricades being pulled down in a rush to access medals. This situation resulted in some participants allegedly grabbing multiple medals, which sparked outrage among others who completed the race but could not access the distribution point.

In the elite categories, Ezra Kere from Kenya won the men's 42km race with a time of 2:11:55, while Ethiopia's Meseret Dink finished first in the women's category with a time of 2:37:36. The marathon began at Orca Shop Mall, Ahmadu Bello, and concluded at Eko Atlantic, Victoria Island.
