JNI and Alkalanci Train Clerics in Media Literacy in Gombe

The Jama'atu Nasril Islam (JNI) collaborated with Alkalanci to conduct a two-day media literacy training in Gombe, attended by 85 clerics and Imams. The training aimed to equip religious leaders with skills to combat misinformation, especially as Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections.

Prof. Khalid Aliyu, Secretary General of JNI, represented by Ustaz Yusuf Sa’id, highlighted the critical role of religious leaders in addressing disinformation, warning against the exploitation of clerics by politicians for political gain.

Amb. Yerima Abdullahi, the Sarkin Bai of Gombe, urged caution in sermons to avoid spreading unverified information.

Alhassan Bala, Editor of Alkalanci, praised the Gombe chapter of JNI for its initiative, noting the importance of training in fact-checking. The training included sessions on identifying fake news and verifying sources.

At the conclusion, participants committed to disseminating their newfound knowledge and emphasized the Islamic teachings on truthfulness.
