Mente Foundation Launches Clean Cooking Initiative in Abuja

Mente Foundation has initiated its clean cooking initiative, Project Green Flame, to address the public health crisis caused by cooking smoke in Africa. The project commenced at Mother Theresa Children’s Home in Abuja, involving the installation of clean cookstoves and provision of fuel.

Tolu Osekita, Founder of Mente Energy and Chairman of Mente Foundation, emphasized the dangers of cooking smoke, which affects nearly a billion people in Africa, particularly women and children. Fisayo Balogun, Director of Mente Foundation, stated that the initiative aims to create a replicable model for similar institutions.

Dr. Kingdom Perelade from the African Medical Centre of Excellence urged for advocacy for cleaner household energy, highlighting the health risks associated with traditional cooking methods. Catherine Emeagwali, Managing Director of Mother Theresa Children’s Home, welcomed the initiative as timely support for improving health and sustainability.

The foundation aims to expand the project across Nigeria and the African continent, addressing the reliance on harmful cooking methods.
