Greenplinth Launches 80 Million Cookstove Initiative in Nigeria

Greenplinth Africa Limited has initiated an ambitious project to deploy 80 million clean cookstoves across Nigeria, starting with a pilot phase in Lagos State. This program aims to reduce household air pollution, curb deforestation, and expand access to clean energy, thereby creating economic opportunities for millions of Nigerians.

During a stakeholder engagement media chat, Titilayo Oshodi, Special Adviser on Climate Change to the Lagos State Governor, emphasized that the initiative is designed to deliver environmental, health, social, and economic benefits simultaneously. Babatund Aina, Group Chief Financial Officer of Greenplinth, described the initiative as a national movement aimed at transforming the lives of millions while addressing issues of health, poverty, energy access, and economic inclusion.

The project will deploy clean cookstoves to households at no charge, utilizing a leasing arrangement to encourage sustainable adoption. Ibrahim Usman Jibril, Chairman of the event, noted the potential for Nigeria to capture opportunities within the global carbon market through this initiative.
