Meta Settles $32.8M Data Privacy Dispute Out of Court in Nigeria

Meta and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) have reached a settlement in a data privacy case, avoiding a $32.8 million fine imposed by the NDPC. The settlement was accepted by Justice James Omotosho in the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The dispute stemmed from allegations of Meta violating privacy rights of Nigerian users on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. The settlement saved judicial time and effort, with both parties agreeing to the terms.

Meta had previously filed a motion seeking to challenge the regulatory agency's actions.
