Meta Launches AI Subscription Plans Starting at $7.99

Meta announced it will start testing two AI subscription plans next month, with the cheapest plan priced at $7.99 per month and a premium plan at $19.99 per month. Naomi Gleit, Head of Product at Meta, revealed that the subscription service will enhance the capabilities of users, allowing for more complex requests and advanced features.

The testing will occur in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia, chosen for their distinct market characteristics. The company emphasizes that a free version of its services will remain available, ensuring that not all users will be required to pay.

This move marks Meta's first attempt to charge users for AI features, representing a shift towards generating revenue beyond traditional advertising. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg indicated that the company is looking to engage users who may be willing to pay for enhanced AI capabilities.

The subscription plans are expected to roll out to major markets, including the U.S. and Europe, within months, depending on the success of the tests.
