Nigeria Records Over 708,000 Power Complaints in 2025

In 2025, a total of 708,677 complaints were recorded against power distribution companies in Nigeria, according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission's report. The complaints were primarily driven by metering issues, which accounted for 47.69% of the grievances, followed by estimated billing and service interruptions.

This marked a significant decrease from the previous year's total of 1,236,213 complaints. The report indicated that the complaints were concentrated in four quarters, with the first quarter recording 254,404 complaints, the second quarter 227,267, the third quarter 168,033, and a sharp decline to 58,973 in the fourth quarter.

Port Harcourt distribution company had the highest number of complaints in the first and second quarters, while Kano distribution company recorded the most in the fourth quarter. The report highlighted that the overall decline in complaints, particularly a 63.05% drop in the fourth quarter, was attributed to changes in reporting methodology.
