Inter Miami Falls 2-1 to Monterrey; Messi Absent

Inter Miami faced Monterrey in a Leagues Cup match on Saturday, suffering a 2-1 defeat while their captain, Lionel Messi, was absent following the death of his father, Jorge Messi, at age 68 in Argentina. Prior to the match, teams observed a minute of silence in honor of Jorge Messi.

Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul opened the scoring for Inter Miami in the 32nd minute, giving them a 1-0 lead at halftime. In a show of support for Messi, De Paul revealed a number 10 shirt underneath his number seven.

However, Monterrey equalized shortly after halftime with a goal from Belgian striker Hugo Cuypers in the 47th minute. The match concluded with Uruguayan striker Diego Rossi scoring a winner for Monterrey in the 90th minute.

Inter Miami had previously won their first group match 4-2 against Atletico San Luis and are set to face Leon on Wednesday.
