Middle Belt Forum Backs NASS Decision on Tantita Security

The Middle Belt Forum commended the National Assembly for its decision to dismiss petitions against Tantita Security Services during a roundtable on pipeline security held in Abuja. The forum, represented by Comrade Meliga, expressed satisfaction with the resolution reached by the Senate and House of Representatives' Committee on Petroleum Resources.

They noted that the rejection of calls to decentralize pipeline surveillance contracts across oil-producing states reflects sound judgment and a clear understanding of the complexities surrounding pipeline security in Nigeria. The forum applauded Hon.

Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), for affirming that the petitions lacked merit, particularly following the failure of petitioners to substantiate their claims. The Middle Belt Forum emphasized that Tantita's security services have significantly reduced pipeline vandalism and contributed to increased crude oil production.

They urged the federal government to sustain and strengthen its partnership with Tantita and cautioned against politicizing the issue, stressing the need for coordinated execution to combat crude oil theft effectively.
