Citizens Urge Government to Address Rising Food Prices

Citizens in Nigeria are appealing to the federal government for intervention as the prices of fuel and food items have surged due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. A survey conducted across various markets in Abuja revealed alarming price hikes.

For instance, a big basket of tomatoes that sold for between N9,000 and N10,000 in February is now priced between N30,000 and N35,000. Similarly, the price of onions has escalated from N15,000 to N45,000, while sweet potatoes and yams have also seen significant increases.

The price of a bag of sachet water has risen from N300 to N500 due to increased diesel costs, as reported by Mr. Simon Adolo, a water distributor.

Mr. Esther Gabriel, a block dealer, noted that the price of blocks has increased due to erratic power supply, which forces businesses to rely on diesel generators.

The citizens are calling for urgent government action to alleviate the financial strain caused by these price hikes.
