João Gomes Approaches £38M Move to Aston Villa

João Gomes, a Brazilian midfielder, is close to completing a transfer from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Aston Villa for a total fee of £38 million. The deal consists of an initial payment of £34 million, with an additional £4 million in performance-related add-ons.

Gomes is expected to undergo a medical examination in Portugal on Thursday. Aston Villa is looking to strengthen their midfield after a difficult season, where they finished bottom of the Premier League.

The club is also finalizing the signing of Swiss international Johan Manzambi for a club record fee of £50 million from Freiburg. Gomes made 41 appearances for Wolverhampton last season, scoring seven goals, before joining Flamengo in 2023.

The transfer is not yet finalized, as Atletico Madrid is reportedly interested in Gomes as well.
