Mikel Obi Mocks Arsenal Over Vinicius Junior Deal

John Mikel Obi, a former Chelsea midfielder and Super Eagles legend, criticized Arsenal for their unsuccessful pursuit of Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior during the summer transfer window. On the Obi One Podcast, Mikel questioned why Vinicius would leave Real Madrid, a club with a rich history, including 15 Champions League titles, for Arsenal, which has only won one Premier League title in a long time and has struggled in recent years.

He stated, “I just think it was only the Arsenal fans that believed that was going to happen. I don’t know what they were smoking.” Despite Arsenal's ambitious proposal and confidence in securing the deal after months of discussions, Vinicius chose to remain at Real Madrid, signing a new six-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 2032.

Mikel concluded his remarks with another jab at Arsenal, mentioning their interest in Morgan Rogers.
