Nigerian Military Rescues Over 40 Kidnap Victims

Between July 10 and July 16, 2023, the Nigerian military reported the rescue of over 40 kidnap victims and the arrest of 20 suspects, including terrorist collaborators. The operations, coordinated by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj Gen Michael Onoja, involved troops from various operations including Hadin Kai, Fansan Yamma, Savannah Shield, and Whirl Stroke.

Significant achievements included the surrender of 10 family members of terrorists, the rescue of 13 abducted individuals, and the neutralization of terrorists during ambush operations around Maiduguri, Borno State. Additionally, operations in Zamfara and Kebbi states resulted in the rescue of 14 kidnap victims.

The military also thwarted an attack in Kwara State, rescuing four victims and recovering weapons. The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Olufemi Oluyede, commended the troops for their professionalism and dedication, emphasizing the importance of ongoing operations to ensure peace and security across the country.
