Military Recovers 686,800 Litres of Stolen Petroleum

In August 2026, the Armed Forces of Nigeria enhanced efforts to dismantle the financial and logistical networks supporting terrorism and economic sabotage. Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, reported the recovery of 686,800 litres of stolen petroleum products and the dismantling of 21 illegal refining sites in the Niger Delta.

Troops arrested logistics suppliers, gunrunners, and informants linked to terrorist groups, recovering 88 assorted weapons and 2,077 rounds of ammunition. The military's operations aimed to protect national assets and prevent revenue losses.

Additionally, troops engaged in peace-building initiatives in Benue State and supported humanitarian efforts in Borno State. The Nigerian Navy also commissioned a solar-powered water project in Lagos.

The Defence Headquarters emphasized that ongoing operations will continue to target not only terrorists and kidnappers but also their financing and logistical networks.
