Military Had Intel Before Borno Attack, Says Zulum

During a condolence visit to Brig. Gen.

Oseini Braimah at the Brigade in Benisheikh, Borno, Governor Babagana Zulum disclosed that the military had received intelligence three days before an attack attributed to Boko Haram insurgents, which occurred last Thursday. The incident resulted in the deaths of at least 17 soldiers and civilians, deeply troubling the governor.

Zulum condemned the assault and urged for an urgent review of military strategies to prevent such surprise attacks, emphasizing the need to reassess the security architecture in light of emerging threats. He noted that credible intelligence indicated a possible attack, raising concerns about the insurgents' ability to strike despite prior warnings.

Local authority Zannah Lawan Ajimi confirmed that the report was promptly communicated to the governor, who lamented the lapses that enabled the attack. Vice President Kashim Shettima visited Maiduguri over the weekend to express condolences on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the families of the deceased.
